Truth

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair. C. S. Lewis

Men should wonder at themselves

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering. Saint Augustine

Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love. Mother Teresa

A man of courage

He is a man of courage who does not run away, but remains at his post and fights against the enemy. Socrates

Don't bother about originality

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it. C. S. Lewis

Perfect moderation

To many, total abstinence is easier than perfect moderation. Saint Augustine

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing. C. S. Lewis

Beauty is indeed a good gift of God; but that the good may not think it a great good, God dispenses it even to the wicked. Saint Augustine

Miracles are not contrary to nature

Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature. Saint Augustine

I feel angry when I see waste

There must be a reason why some people can afford to live well. They must have worked for it. I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things that we could use. Mother Teresa

The safest road to hell

The safest road to hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. C. S. Lewis

It is not fitting, when one is in God's service, to have a gloomy face or a chilling look. Francis of Assisi

This website is designed for the Glory of God Prayer Group and is used to share their personal, individual and collective experiences in our relationship with our God, the God of the Christians. Therefore, you may not achieve any success, and it may even be detrimental to you if you try to imitate these experiences unless you wholeheartedly accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour. One or two examples will suffice to drive home this point.

When the church started and the disciples were bringing their property together and sharing, a gentleman called Ananias,  and his wife decided to withhold some of the proceeds from the sale of their property and lie about it. Both of them were buried that day - Acts 5:1-11. They died because they were insincere. They pretended to serve God with all their hearts but did not, and God decided to use them as scapegoats. You may not necessarily be condemned to death, but you could still find yourself in a dire situation, if you do not whole-heartedly accept Jesus and whole-heartedly work for him. An example would be if you are purposely using the name of Jesus to make money.

The sons of Sceva who did not understand who Jesus was and did not understand the purpose of Jesus' name, and only seeing the name of Jesus as a name that could be used to work wonders and make a name for themselves had a day of their lives - Acts 19:11-20. “They said to the evil spirits, 'I command you in the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches.”’- vs 14. “But the evil spirit said to them, ‘I know Jesus, and I know about Paul; but you-who are you?”’ – vs 15. “The man who had the evil spirit in him attacked them with such violence that he overpowered them all. They ran away from his house, wounded and with their clothes torn off.” – vs 16. Don’t forget there were seven men!

Besides, some of the promises that are made in the talks and articles, and the testimonies that are given are individual experiences that may not apply to everyone. Whether you have some of those experiences or not depend on three things: (1) the faith and anointing of the minister; (2) the faith of the one receiving the ministration and (3) the will of God.

(1)    The faith and anointing of the minister.
When his disciples could not cast out a demon and asked him why, Jesus answered, “It was because you haven’t enough faith.” – Matthew 17:20.

(2)    The faith of the one receiving the ministration
In the Mark parallel of the healing of the boy with the demon, Mark 9:14-29, the father concluded his request by saying, “Have pity on us and help us, if you possibly can!” Jesus replied, "if you yourself can! Everything is possible for the person who has faith.” vs 22-23. In Acts 14:8-18, where Paul healed the man who had been crippled from birth, we are told that, “Paul saw that he believed and could be healed.” That is how come Paul was able to heal him.

(3)    The will of God.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul tells of his experience where an angel of Satan was sent to torment him. He prayed to the Lord three times to take it away, but the reply of the Lord was, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

We also read from the book of Job how Satan was permitted to torment Job as a test of Job’s loyalty to God.

Some of these examples quoted above may make it look like there is uncertainty when dealing with God. However, we are certain of one thing: that whoever loves God and is faithful to him will not be disappointed. Even when God permits suffering in our (faithful Christians’) lives and we can still trust him and depend on him, even in that situation, he eventually makes us understand that even the pain we went through was for our good.

Pursue Your Strengths

God has equipped each one of us with specific gifts and talents. It’s up to each of us to identify those gifts and be disciplined enough to develop them. You have to learn to stay in your strength zone. What are you naturally good at? What do you enjoy doing? Take the time to identify your strengths and weaknesses, and as the Scripture says, give yourself to your gifts. In other words, don’t spend all your time trying to improve... Read more>>>

A wealthy man had only one daughter. When the daughter was of marriage age, the father sent news around town that all the eligible young men should come to compete in a test which would determine who was fit to marry his daughter. On the set day, all able-bodied young men came out. Some came with paper and pen and others with cutlasses and swords. The rich man took them to his swimming pool and addressed them:“Any of you who can swim from... Read more>>>

Is the Bible the Final Authority?

This article has been inspired by the conflict that exists within Christianity mainly due to the interpretation of the bible (the genuine cases). First of all it is important for us to understand the place of the bible in Christianity before we can properly apply it to Christian spirituality. This article seeks to use the dealings of God with his people Israel, the dealings of Jesus and the apostles with the early Christians, the bible itself and common sense to... Read more>>>

Do I Need to Forgive Others to be Forgiv…

Dear ..., I hope this writeup meets you in good spirits. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete the discussion we started, so I decided to put my thoughts together in this writeup for you to study. I hope you read this writeup with an open mind. I referred to Matthew 5:21-24, 38-48, Matthew 6:14,15 and Matthew 18:21ff to make the point that unforgiveness is one of the gravest sins, because it actually prevents your other sins from being forgiven. You challenged that a Christian can’t... Read more>>>

A brief history of the Holy Rosary and h…

What is the rosary? The angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary, when he came to announce the conception of Jesus, is familiar to most Catholics. It is echoed in one of the most popular Catholic prayers, the Hail Mary (in Latin, Ave Maria): “Hail, [Mary,] favoured one [or ‘full of grace’]! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). The words that follow in that prayer also come from Scripture, from Elizabeth’s greeting to our Lady soon afterward: “Blessed are you among women, and... Read more>>>
