Meaning of the universe

If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning. C. S. Lewis

Death, a blessings

Death may be the greatest of all human blessings. Socrates

Fear vs reverence

Where there is reverence there is fear, but there is not reverence everywhere that there is fear, because fear presumably has a wider extension than reverence. Socrates

Even the rich are hungry for love

Even the rich are hungry for love, for being cared for, for being wanted, for having someone to call their own. Mother Teresa

I feel angry when I see waste

There must be a reason why some people can afford to live well. They must have worked for it. I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things that we could use. Mother Teresa

Be faithful in small things

Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. Mother Teresa

The safest road to hell

The safest road to hell is the gradual one - the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. C. S. Lewis

Judging disputes

If two friends ask you to judge a dispute, don't accept, because you will lose one friend; on the other hand, if two strangers come with the same request, accept because you will gain one friend. Saint Augustine

Words too big for the subject

Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. C. S. Lewis

Source of the deadliest hate

From the deepest desires often come the deadliest hate. Socrates

A drop in the ocean

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. Mother Teresa

God is happiness and peace

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing. C. S. Lewis

Our walking is our preaching

It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching. Francis of Assisi

God's love

God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. Saint Augustine

Our life of poverty

Our life of poverty is as necessary as the work itself. Only in heaven will we see how much we owe to the poor for helping us to love God better because of them. Mother Teresa

Importance of Christianity

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important. C. S. Lewis

Pride

It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels. Saint Augustine

The souls of the righteous are immortal …

All men's souls are immortal, but the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine. Socrates

The shelter of compassion and pity

If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. Francis of Assisi

Words of light

Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness. Mother Teresa

This website is designed for the Glory of God Prayer Group and is used to share their personal, individual and collective experiences in our relationship with our God, the God of the Christians. Therefore you may not achieve any success, and it may even be detrimental to you if you try to imitate these experiences unless you wholeheartedly accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour. One or two examples will suffice to drive home this point.

When the church started and the disciples were bringing their property together and sharing, a gentleman called Ananias,  and his wife decided to withhold some of the proceeds from the sale of their property and lie about it. Both of them were buried that day - Acts 5:1-11. They died because they were insincere. They pretended to serve God with all their hearts but did not and God decided to use them as scapegoats. You will not necessarily, but could find yourself in that position, if you have not whole-heartedly accepted Jesus and whole-heartedly work for him. An example would be if you are purposefully using the name of Jesus to make money.

The sons of Sceva who did not understand who Jesus was and did not understand the purpose of Jesus' name, and only seeing the name of Jesus as a name that could be used to work wonders and make a name for themselves had a day of their lives - Acts 19:11-20. “They said to the evil spirits, 'I command you in the name of Jesus whom Paul preaches.”’- vs 14. “But the evil spirit said to them, ‘I know Jesus, and I know about Paul; but you-who are you?”’ – vs 15. “The man who had the evil spirit in him attacked them with such violence that he overpowered them all. They ran away from his house, wounded and with their clothes torn off.” – vs 16. Don’t forget there were seven men!

Besides, some of the promises that are made in the talks and articles, and the testimonies that are given are individual experiences that may not apply to everyone. Whether you have some of those experiences or not depend on three things: (1) the faith and anointing of the minister; (2) the faith of the one receiving the ministration and (3) the will of God.

(1)    The faith and anointing of the minister.
When his disciples could not cast out a demon and asked him why, Jesus answered, “It was because you haven’t enough faith.” – Matthew 17:20.

(2)    The faith of the one receiving the ministration
In the Mark parallel of the healing of boy with the demon, Mark 9:14-29, the father concluded his request by saying, “Have pity on us and help us, if you possibly can!” Jesus replied, "if you yourself can! Everything is possible for the person who has faith.” vs 22-23. In Acts 14:8-18, where Paul healed the man who had been crippled from birth, we are told that, “Paul saw that he believed and could be healed.” That is how come Paul was able to heal him.

(3)    The will of God.
In 2 Corinthians 12:7-9, Paul tells of his experience where an angel of Satan was sent to torment him. He prayed to the Lord three times to take it away, but the reply of the Lord was, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

We also read from the book of Job how Satan was permitted to torment Job as a test of Job’s loyalty to God.

Some of these examples quoted above may make it look like there is uncertainty when dealing with God. However, we are certain of one thing: that whoever loves God and is faithful to him will not be disappointed. Even when God permits suffering in our (faithful Christians’) lives and we can still trust him and depend on him, even in that situation, he eventually makes us understand that even the pain we went through was for our good.

In praise of the Lord

Who is it that visits the hot sun without getting burnt?Who else but the Lord of power Who is it that visits the cold moon without being frozen?Who else but the Lord of might Who is it that confines the seas with His hands?Who else but the Lord, the creator of the heavens and the earth Who is it that tames lions?Who else but the Lord Who is it that the winds obey?Who else but the Lord Who is it that waves obey?Who else but... The world is more than rotten The world has changed completely into what I can’t describe. Will I say rotten? Oh no, it will be an understatement. Some youth say, “We are in the 21st century.” Some also say, “We are the future leaders.” Other youth say, “We are civilised.” Still, others say, “Computer children.” Indeed this twenty-first century has changed. Things are now upside down, which has made the road to righteousness very rough for the youth and difficult to... Read more>>>

Report of the Catholic Church's position on baptism of transgender people Recently, there has been a report claiming that the Catholic Church has decided to permit transgender people to be baptized and become godparents. In fact prayer is the meeting point between divinity and... Read more>>>

A brief history of the Holy Rosary and h…

What is the rosary? The angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary, when he came to announce the conception of Jesus, is familiar to most Catholics. It is echoed in one of the most popular Catholic prayers, the Hail Mary (in Latin, Ave Maria): “Hail, [Mary,] favoured one [or ‘full of grace’]! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28). The words that follow in that prayer also come from Scripture, from Elizabeth’s greeting to our Lady soon afterward: “Blessed are you among women, and... Read more>>>

Respect dignities

When we despise dominion and speak evil of dignities we break the divine pattern and bring a tide of curse upon ourselves and those under our care. As those under our authority behold how we treat those in authority over us, they will become fuelled by the same spirit and start to treat us in a similar manner. Once this spirit enters into a community, that community will burst apart at some point fracturing along personality lines. This is the... Read more>>>

Is the Bible the Final Authority?

This article has been inspired by the conflict that exists within Christianity mainly due to the interpretation of the bible (the genuine cases). First of all it is important for us to understand the place of the bible in Christianity before we can properly apply it to Christian spirituality. This article seeks to use the dealings of God with his people Israel, the dealings of Jesus and the apostles with the early Christians, the bible itself and common sense to... Read more>>>
